Check It Out Fridays #11

Dear Book Reader,

Well, I’m getting more books than I have time to read right now and it’s kind of overwhelming!  I’m really having to pick and choose what I read.  I’m also trying to be good about not checking out “first timers”, but failing at that…miserably.  I seriously need a couple of days when nothing needs to be done and I can curl up on the couch or in a chair and just read.  My library’s summer reading program started almost two weeks ago, so I am trying to read more instead of doing other things.  Like finding more books on Goodreads.

First Time Check Out:

  • Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins (2nd copy)
  • Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor
  • Zoe Letting Go by Nora Price
  • Newtown: An American Tragedy by Matthew Lysiak
  • The Here And Now by Ann Brashares
  • Great by Sara Benincasa
  • The Treatment by Suzanne Young
  • Biggest Flirts by Jennifer Echols

Checked Out Again:

  • Liv, Forever by Amy Talkington
  • Alice In Zombieland by Gena Showalter
  • The Sound Of Letting Go by Stasia Ward Kehoe
  • Something Real by Heather Demetrios
  • Prisoner of Night And Fog by Anne Blankman (accidentally returned early)
  • Insanity by Susan Vaught

Renewed Again:

  • The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
  • The Other Countess by Eve Edwards
  • The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Cordova
  • The Savage Blue by Zoraida Cordova
  • The Ward by Jordana Frankel
  • Starry Nights by Daisy Whitney
  • Crewel by Gennifer Albin
  • Altered by Gennifer Albin
  • Her Dark Curiosity by Megan Shepherd

Returned For Keeps:

  • Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • A Death-Struck Year by Makiia Lucier

So. Many. Books.  Not enough hours!  Two got returned this week for library keeps, which is good.  One I had to return because someone had it on hold, but I’m sure I’ll have it checked out again before we know it.  A hundred points for anyone who can figure out what book it was.

Month In Review: May

Dear Book Reader,

Hey there!  Can you believe that May is over?  This year seems to be moving by so fast!

Reading wise, I felt like I was in a slump and I didn’t read as much as I’d have liked to.  Here’s the books I did read this month:

  1. Ruins by Dan Wells
  2. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
  3. Isabelle by Laurence Yep (Part of the American Girl series)
  4. The One by Kiera Cass
  5. This Is How I Find Her by Sara Polsky
  6. A Death-Struck Year by Makiia Lucier

I guess six isn’t bad, but I started a few books that I haven’t finished yet.

I also posted one review, although I have a few ready to go.

I really feel like I’ve slacking in the review department.  Maybe June will be a  better in that regard!

WWW Wednesdays #5

Dear Book Reader,

WWW_Wednesdays4

WWW Wednesdays is hosted over at Should Be Reading!
To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

1.  I’m still reading “A Death-Struck Year” because I haven’t had much reading time this past week.

2.  I’ve finished a few kids books lately.  Haha!  That’s about it!

3.  Next will probably be “Don’t Look Back” because someone else has a hold on the book.

How would you answer these 3 questions this week?

WWW Wednesdays #4

Dear Book Reader,

WWW Wednesdays is hosted over at Should Be Reading!

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

1. Currently I am reading “A Death-Struck Year” by Makiia Lucier.  Glad to be reading some historical fiction!

2. I recently finished Kiera Cass’s “The One” from her “The Selection” trilogy.  I loved this book and the way it ended!

3. I’ve got a couple of books that are coming up due in a couple of weeks, and I’m focusing on books that are due during the week I know I won’t have much time to read or get to the library to return them.  Hoping I can get through 2 or 3 of the books that are at their renewal limit and aren’t on my holds list.  Don’t you just love how I leave you hanging as to what I’m going to be reading next? 🙂

Teaser Tuesdays #4

Dear Book Reader,

Here I am with this week’s Teaser Tuesday!  It’s one of my Debut Author Challenge books called “A Death-Struck Year”, written by Makiia Lucier.  Click here to add it to your TBR Goodreads shelf!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

“Has something happened, Miss Abernathy?” I asked.  “Since yesterday?  Are things worse at Camp Lewis?”

~ pg. 40 “A Death-Struck Year” by Makiia Lucier

For the first time ever, my school gates were closed to me.

~ pg. 212 “A Death-Struck Year” by Makiia Lucier

What TT do you have to share?  Link in the comments!

Check It Out Fridays #8

Dear Book Reader,

It’s been awhile since I’ve published one of these posts!  I still have tons of books checked out from the library, but I haven’t been making as many new book check outs lately.  I have a number of “on order” or “in cataloging” books on hold though.  I’m still sitting at maximum holds on my card for books I still haven’t gotten around to reading, so I’ve been putting stuff on hold with my mom’s card.  Too many books, too little time!

First Time Check Out:

  • Asunder by Jodi Meadows
  • Infinite by Jodi Meadows
  • The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
  • Zane and the Hurricane: A Story of Katrina by Rodman Philbrick
  • Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Checked Out/Renewed Again…and Again:

  • Me Since You by Laura Wiess
  • Hidden Girl: The True Story of a Modern-Day Child Slave by Shyima Hall
  • A Snicker of Magic by Natalie Lloyd
  • Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
  • Three: An Article 5 Novel by Kristen Simmons
  • Panic by Lauren Oliver (Not sure if I have both copies…again).
  • A Death-Struck Year by Makiia Lucier
  • The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (I think I have two copies of this book checked out)

Have you read any of these books?  I’m patiently (not) waiting for the one copy of Incarnate to be returned so that I can start reading this trilogy!

Dear Book Readers,

I hope everyone had as a great week!  It’s been a busy up and down week for me and I’m so glad to see the end of it.  Next week is going to be pretty much of the same.  This week library wise…so much was due back and it was either take it back or renew it.  Most of the renewed stuff was just renewed today.  I don’t remember checking so many books out in one day, but I must have gone on a book binge four weeks ago.   See, I hoard library books.  This is proof.

  • The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
  • Me Since You by Laura Wiess
  • Plague by Michael Grant
  • Fear by Michael Grant
  • Light by Michael Grant
  • Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy
  • Ashfall by Mike Mullin
  • Ashen Winter by Mike Mullin

Checked Out/Renewed Again…and Again:

  • Going Rogue: An Also Known As Novel by Robin Benway
  • And We Stay by Jenny Hubbard
  • A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
  • Double Digit by Annabel Monaghan
  • Afterparty by Ann Redisch Stampler
  • Enders by Lissa Price
  • Starters by Lissa Price

At this point I feel no need to add in the couple of books that I could download from the Overdrive Media Library.  🙂

What book(s) did you pick up from your public library this week that you can’t wait to read?  Or did you have a renewal that you’re glad to hang on to for a few more weeks?
